Jason Belanger Announces Campaign for LaSalle Council

LASALLE, ON, August 4, 2026 – Long-time LaSalle resident Jason Belanger has announced his candidacy for LaSalle Town Council in the 2026 municipal election.

Belanger has lived in LaSalle for more than 30 years, but his connection to the community goes back much further. Born in Chatham and raised in Pain Court, Belanger had family living in LaSalle from the time he was born and regularly visited the community before eventually making it his home.

“My wife and I raised our family here, and LaSalle is the community we chose to call home,” said Belanger. “I want our kids to have that same opportunity, to grow up here, build their lives here and be able to afford to call LaSalle home too.”

Over the years, the Belanger family has also welcomed two Rotary exchange students into their home, giving the family an opportunity to share their community with young people from other parts of the world.

Belanger brings more than three decades of public-sector experience to his campaign. He spent 30 years with the Windsor Police Service, including service as a Sergeant, and has continued working in the public sector following his retirement from policing.

His professional experience includes leadership, technology, policy development, project management, procurement, budgeting, privacy, training and organizational governance. He also holds a Master of Science in Forensic Computing and Cybercrime.

Many LaSalle residents may already know him by a somewhat less formal title.

“Apparently, I’m ‘Belanger, the Facebook guy,’” Belanger said. “I’ve heard that one more than a few times.”

For several years, Belanger has been actively involved in discussions about municipal issues in LaSalle. He has spent countless hours reviewing Town budgets, staff reports, studies, policies and Council documents, researching major projects and sharing information with residents.

Belanger said that work has reinforced his belief that one of Council’s most important responsibilities is oversight.

“Councillors are stewards of public money,” Belanger said. “They don’t need to be experts in everything, but they need to understand the policies that govern the decisions they’re making, ask informed questions and understand what they’re voting on before they vote.”

Belanger said his approach to Council can be summarized in three words: Evidence. Value. Accountability.

Evidence means making decisions based on facts, research and good information.

Value means respecting taxpayers by talking about the real cost of decisions, rather than reducing tax increases to expressions such as “30 cents a day.”

Accountability means understanding what he is voting on, explaining his decisions and taking responsibility for the votes he casts.

“This isn’t something I plan to start doing if I’m elected,” Belanger said. “I’ve been doing the homework for years. I’ll bring that same approach to the Council table.”

Belanger said affordability will be a central consideration in his approach to municipal decision-making, particularly as LaSalle continues to grow.

“Growth brings opportunity, but the decisions we make today about taxes, infrastructure, services and major projects can affect residents for decades,” he said. “We need to understand the full cost of those decisions and make sure the community we’re building remains affordable for the next generation.”

Belanger is asking LaSalle residents for their support in the municipal election on October 26, 2026.

“LaSalle is a great place to live. I want to help keep it that way,” Belanger said. “On October 26, I’m asking residents for the opportunity to bring Evidence, Value and Accountability to the Council table.”
